Today I start a new series sharing YOUR love about Poland. The series will be as regular as I can make it, and will feature other writers and travel bloggers who are as lunatical about Poland as me. You don’t have to be Polish to be in the series, but you do have to “Kocham polskę”. I am delighted to welcome our first in the series – thanks so much to Anda for being a part of it. Anda blogs at Twisted Red Ladybug and also works together with me to promote Poland to the world via the Facebook group Hello Poland/Kocham Polske. If you share our love for Poland and want to be in the series, please get in touch on my Contacts Page.

Where in Poland are you from? (or Where in Poland do you live?)
TwistedRedLadyBug: I have been living in Krakow for about 6 years now. I come from Romania, the land of Nadia Comaneci (the first 10 grade in the history of the Olympics), Vlad the Impaler (also known as Vlad Dracula, Vlad Tepes, or in Hollywood… Dracula), yummy Cotnari wine and beautiful women 😉
When did you first travel abroad?
TwistedRedLadyBug: I can’t pic a date for that… actually I’ve been travelling since I was in my mother’s womb. I am the second child so at the second pregnancy mum was more courageous and she even went travelling abroad while I was safe and warm. When I was small I also visited Moldavia, but the first trip abroad by myself was when I finished high school. I went to Paralia Katerini, Greece, and I fell in love with that place. To this day Greece has a special place in my heart.

What is your favourite city in Poland and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: obviously my favourite city in Poland is Krakow, else I would not have settled down here. I first came here around 7 years ago for a weekend, work connected, and I liked it so much that I settled down I would make my next vacation here. I booked 10 days to be sure I get to see at least the most important sights – like Auschwitz, Birkenau, Wieliczka, Schindlers Museum, Wawel Castle, Kazimierz and the Old Town. Turns out 10 days is not enough 😉 so I was thirsty for more…

What is your favourite town in Poland and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: my favourite town is located in the Silesian Voivodeship (Śląsk) and it us called Pszcyna. It has 3 lovely places that are a must see:
1) The Zubr reservation – you can even see when they are being fed!
2) Skanksen – old houses museum, a reproduction of how a Silesian village used to look like.
3) The  Pszcyna Castle – built in Gothic style and redone in Renaissance mood. For me it reminded me both of Versailles and the home residence of Lord Grantham from the Downton Abbey series. Just magical! 💗

What is your favourite village in Poland and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: my favourite village is the village where my husband was born: Stara Wies, next to Limanowa. It’s a beautiful green and quiet place. It’s a place where you can recharge your batteries and a place where you forget you have a phone – also due to the fact that the house is like in the series “House in the prairie”, in the middle of nowhere, so even the cell phone connection is practically non-existent.
What is your favourite province in Poland and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: I think the Małopolskie region wins this for me. Mostly because of Krakow and the Eagle Nest Trail – the rows of castles 💗 I love castles and medieval stories and Małopolskie region has plenty of stories to tell!

Why do you like living in Poland?
TwistedRedLadyBug: I love living in Poland as I can be myself in any situation. I never felt any bad influence or faced any ugly situations. It feels somehow like home away from home… I like to say that home is where your heart is and if your heart is in a million places, than your home is the entire world. I had 2 countries where I felt at home: Greece and Poland. I guess it’s because I was lucky enough to meet some wonderful human beings that made me feel at peace there.

What is your favourite Polish drink and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: my favourite polish drink is vodka with apple juice. And for a meeting with ladies I would choose Nalewka Babuni – the one made out of pigwa. Also… the best homemade drinks I ever had were done by my dearest friend Kasia. She does miracles with fruits!
What is your favourite Polish food and why?
TwistedRedLadyBug: Zurek is one of the weirdest things I have ate in Poland but it is also my favourite food! Who would know that placing white sausage, potatoes, mushrooms, boiled eggs together in a creamy sour cream texture would be so… yummy! And perfect before each drinking party 😉

What is your favourite random fact about Poland?
TwistedRedLadyBug: Did you know that Pope John Paul 2nd was the first non-Italian Pope since the 16th century? He was also the first Pope that visited a communist country 😉
If you didn’t live in Poland, where would you live?
TwistedRedLadyBug: oh… I would have probably tried out UK or Ireland. New Zealand seems pretty far away but I’ve heard so many lovely stories about it… then again the world is such a wonderful place! Why choose a spot to stay when you can travel all around it?! Still… there is a time when you settle down and think of family and security and… Poland feels the safest place to be just now 🙂
