My Świętokrzyskie Debut: Staying at Agroturystyka “Przy Szlaku” “Dude Ranch” in Tranquil Trzcianka

After the dreamy days backpacking towns and villages nobody heard of, it was time for another one, and this time a more special occasion. My May reader vote sent me to the Świętokrzyskie province of Poland in my quest to visit every province of Poland by the end of 2017. 6 months left, 6 Provinces left plus a few more wacaday Micronations like Krolestwo Dreamlandu and Leblandia to go. So here in pretty Świętokrzyskie, I again headed off the traditional tourist circuit, sidestepping Kielce and by chance, my friend Artur’s wedding was in Świętokrzyskie Province! Welcome to my first post on this region, and the sleeping venue for my second Polish wedding (the first was in Pomlewo, Kaszuby).

We stayed at a place called Agroturystyka “Przy Szlaku” (“Dude Ranch” in English apparently) in sweet Polish countryside in the town of Trzcianka at Trzcianka 11, just a kilometre from the wedding venue itself Wolka Milanowska which is in Nowa Slupia district in remote countryside and less than twenty minutes drive from the church in Pawlowie.

The village of Trzcianka itself is almost as small as they come on my travels through 151 countries! Trzcianka has an estimated population of 210. You can probably add 50 to that when we arrived for Artur and Malgorzata’s wedding!

It is in the administrative district of Gmina Nowa Słupia, within Kielce County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south-central Poland. Trzcianka lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) south-west of Nowa Słupia and 33 km (21 mi) east of the regional capital From the country’s capital of Warszawa, our journey took about 3 hours, passing through Zlotoklos on route.

The accommodation was as good as any I have stayed in, in Poland, and if you read my hotel reviews and hostel reviews, you will know I like an eclectic range. We had a room of 4 for 4 of the lads (Kuba, Rafał, Kamil, myself) – although on the first of the three nights, Rafał had the key to the room and it was locked, so when I returned home at 7am with a beer, I had to sleep in room 4, instead of our room 11. Here are some photos of the room:

We also had a huge garden for games including football, volleyball and lighting a fire at night. There was a big crowd of all – all Polish except one Northern Irishman and we all gelled well and had a great time. My highlight was probably the spontaneous football in the garden, not quite fit for my Series but great fun!

There were three wild nights here in Trzcianka, these photos are taken at the venue we slept at. Later, are some photos of the wedding venue, at nearby Milanowska Wólka.

Backpacking in Trzcianka
In terms of “backpacking in Trzcianka”, it probably wouldn’t stretch to a “top 5” as you blink, and you miss it! It’s a tiny village,  much much smaller than places like Pelplin, Kokoszkowy, Rywałd and Biskupiec. However, I got a beer selfie at the entrance sign, and there were great countryside views, plus a Biedronka!

The Wedding in the Church at Pawłów – Parafia rzymskokatolicka św. Jana Chrzciciela
The Wedding itself was a service in the town of Pawłów, and was held at the countryside church of Parafia rzymskokatolicka św. Jana Chrzciciela. It was a traditional Polish wedding, here are some photos.

Pre-Wedding Stag Party in Warszawa
I was also in attendance for both nights of Artur’s stag party in the Polish capital city of Warszawa. We went Go Karting at Kartingowy Narodowy, and had two mayhemic nights out in Warszawa.

And like many things in life, it came, it went and it was back to reality the next day. My thanks so much to Artur and Malgorzata for inviting me to be a part of their special day. I loved it and I wish them a happy and wonderful marriage.
