A few years ago, my friend Aneta bought me a book as a present – it was 1001 places in Poland to visit. It’s an adruous task, it’s pretty hard to do that. I don’t know anyone who has been to all 1001 places in this book, not even Polish people. I’ve also been to some places in Poland that are not included in this book (e.g. Radymno, Kokoszkowy, Pruszcz Gdanski).
However, a recent check reveals that I am almost at the century. I have almost visited 100 places (settlements, cities, towns, villages, significant tourist sites, former settlements) in Poland. I’m either on 92, or 98, so if I visit 2 more this year, then I will celebrate a century. Here is the list.
4.Auschwitz (German Death Camp)
5.Birkenau (German Death Camp)
10.Słowiński National Park
19.Stutthof (German Death Camp)
38.Modlin/Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki
39.Majdanek (German Death Camp)
53.Wilczy Szaniec (Wolfschanze / Wolf’s Lair)
63.Trzcianka (a different one)
64.Bochnia (UNESCO Site which I counted separately)
I am still debating on whether to count the next 5 locations on my list of Polish places, as officially 4 of them are separate, and 1 of them is Polish land abroad.
95.King George Island – Henryk Arctowski Base (Polish Antarctica)
96.Krolestwo Dreamlandu (Polish based Micronation)
97.Królestwo Kabuto (Polish based Micronation)
98.Leblandia (Polish based Micronation)
99.San Escobar (Polish based wacaday Micronation)
I didn’t count the following places, both of which I have been to and left the train, but not the train station as they were short layovers / train delays.
So I have about 4 months to try and complete the century. I have no idea what location I would like to choose for number 100!! Wish me luck!
